Looking for a Used Bending Machine?

Brand Story of Langbow

Langbow was set up in 1971 as a design and manufacturing centre for Tube Machinery. This included the world-famous Langbow TM series twin-head tube-bending machines, which were developed into fully automatic 6-axis CNC versions. Langbow also made tube notching machines, Tube End Forming machines and specially designed machinery to provide solutions to production requirements for tube manipulation around the world.

In the late 90s, it was apparent that manufacturing techniques had improved in the Far East to such an extent that we could look at importing machinery and offer a wider range to complement our existing equipment.

After much consideration and many air miles, it was clear that the best manufacturer in this part of the world was SOCO in Taiwan. We formed a relationship with SOCO in 1999, and this remains strong to this day.

Langbow is SOCO’s Official UK Distributor and has been solely responsible for the sale, commissioning, training and warranty work on in excess of 600 Machines currently in use in the UK.

Mandrel Bender Technology Explained

Mandrel tube bending is essential for complex shapes and thin-walled tubing. By inserting a mandrel inside the tube during bending, the tube retains its roundness, even under tight-radius conditions.

Benefits of mandrel bending:

  • Prevents wrinkling and ovality

  • Maintains precise shape on thin walls

  • Enables tighter bends with minimal distortion

  • Essential for exhaust pipes, hydraulic lines, and structural frameworks

Langbow’s mandrel benders combine this powerful technology with CNC automation for precision you can rely on.

What’s the difference between a tube bender and a pipe bender?

A tube bender is specifically designed for bending hollow tubing with thinner walls, while pipe benders are made for thicker-walled piping.

What are the benefits of using cutting-edge pipe benders?

Cutting-edge pipe benders offer unmatched precision, reducing material wastage significantly. They ensure uniform bends, which enhances the quality of your projects and minimises errors. Advanced technology in these benders allows for quick adjustments, catering to various pipe sizes and materials with ease. This efficiency not only saves time but also reduces operational costs, making it a valuable investment for any industry requiring precise pipe bending.

How do cutting-edge tube benders reduce wastage?

These pipe and tube benders utilise advanced technology to deliver precise bends, thereby reducing the likelihood of errors that lead to discarded materials. They are designed to optimise material usage by allowing for exact specifications and tighter tolerances, ensuring that each piece of pipe is bent to the exact requirements. This precision drastically cuts down on the amount of waste produced, saving resources and costs.

Are tube benders suitable for all types of pipes & tubes?

Yes, modern pipe benders are designed to accommodate a wide range of pipe materials, including steel, copper, and aluminium. Their adaptable features and programmable settings allow for customisation according to the pipe’s material and thickness, ensuring optimal bending without compromising the integrity of the pipe. This versatility makes them suitable for diverse applications across different industries.

How do tube benders improve precision?

These benders are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, such as CNC controls, that allow for exact measurements and consistent results. They enable operators to set precise angles and radii, ensuring each bend meets the necessary specifications. The high level of control and accuracy provided by these machines results in superior product quality and minimal need for rework, thereby increasing overall efficiency.

Are tubing benders easy to use?

Tubing benders are generally easy to use once set up, but the level of ease depends on the machine type—manual and NC benders require more operator skill, while automated CNC models are far more user-friendly and efficient.

What are common tube bending mistakes?

Some common tube bending mistakes include wrinkling, flattening, wall thinning, springback, cracking, and incorrect bend angles or radii—often caused by improper tooling, wrong material selection, or operator error.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CNC, NC, AND MANUAL TUBE BENDERS?

When choosing a tube bender, it’s important to understand the level of automation and control:

  • Manual Tube Benders
    • Operated by hand or with basic hydraulics.
    • Best for small batches, simple bends, or workshop use.
    • Low cost but requires more operator skill and time.
  • NC (Numerical Control) Tube Benders
    • Controlled through a programmable interface with limited automation.
    • Accurate, cost-effective, and faster than manual machines.
    • Suitable for medium production volumes where precision is needed without full automation.
  • CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Tube Benders
    • Fully automated with multi-axis control.
    • Can perform complex, multi-radius, and multi-stack bends with repeatable precision.
    • Ideal for high-volume production in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and shipbuilding.

👉 In short: Manual = entry-level, NC = semi-automated, CNC = high-performance and scalable.

What is the best bending machine for thin-walled tubes?

Thin-walled tubes easily wrinkle, flatten, or collapse when bent. A mandrel bender places a support inside the tube while it’s being bent, which:

  • Keeps the tube round
  • Prevents wrinkles and kinks
  • Allows tighter bend radii
  • Produces cleaner, more consistent results

In short:

✅ Best choice: CNC mandrel tube bender

⚠️ Avoid: Non-mandrel benders for very thin walls or tight bends (higher risk of distortion)

What role does software play in modern tube bending processes?

Software is essential in modern tube bending operations, controlling CNC tube benders to ensure precision, repeatability, and efficiency. It translates design specifications into machine commands, optimising bend angles, radii, and tube positioning to reduce material waste and prevent errors.
